“Train up a child…” Part 2

Our son absolutely LOVES Wal-Mart. One reason is probably that we frequent Wal-Mart about once or twice an hour (or so it seems). We make it a point to go see the fish almost every time we’re there and he also loves the smiley face stickers that you get from a greeter as soon as you walk in the door.

Yesterday morning on the way to church, Jake found two stickers in his car seat and proceeded to put them on and wear them to church. Super cool for the preacher’s kid! Yesterday we were all sitting in the living room and Stephanie was talking about how much Jake loved Wal-Mart.

She asked, “Jake, are you going to work at Wal-Mart when you get big?”

Jake responded, “No, I’m going to work with daddy…at his office…at Crosspointe.”

Lines like that sure can make a dad proud! It’s also a reminder that our children watch us carefully and we have such a huge responsibility to be a godly, loving example.

“Train up a child…”

It’s the small things in this world that help you realize that you are raising your children right. Parenting is a difficult endeavor to say the least, but there are bright spots along the way that encourage you and keep you going. Like last night, on our way to the Fall Festival at Crosspointe, I told Jake,

“Hey buddy, you’re great!”

He looked back at me and said with excitement,

“Daddy…you rock my face off!!!”

Amazing!

Saturday evening the whole family is riding in the car from one gathering to another. It was about supper time so I think Jake was pretty hungry. We brought an apple for the ride so Jake could eat along the way. Stephanie twisted the stem off and handed it to Jake in the back seat. About halfway through our ride, I look back and notice that Jake is eating the entire apple; core and all. He literally ate the ENTIRE THING! He ate the seeds, the core, the bottom part and all.

Believe it or not, we do feed our son…I guess he was just extra hungry that day!

It’s funny…somewhere in the back of my mind as a father I’m thinking, “that’s awesome Jake, what a manly thing to do!” Although, truth be told; I don’t think I could (or would) eat the entire apple…core and all.

A New Perdue

Yes, believe it or not, I am actually posting on my blog…

Things have been so busy since our move that I’ve hardly had time to even think about this thing. And, as I’m sure you’re aware, it’s never been a huge priority for me anyway. But, I thought I would post about our HUGE news. That’s right…a new Perdue is on the way. It’s funny because the last time I posted on my blog it was to announce our baby boy Judd. Well, he’s 10 months old now and we’ve got another baby due in April. It seems that time flies when you’re having fun…and when you have small kids!

More to come as life moves on…
