Dealing With Disappointment

I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed. UGA lost to Bama in the SEC Championship game. I’m proud of our boys. I think we played a great game. And, hats off to Bama for beating us fair and square.

I’m not depressed. I’m not down on my team. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. So close. One game away from a shot at the National Championship. So yes. A bit disappointed.

This small disappointment got me to thinking. How do you deal with disappointment in life or in ministry? Are there steps that you take? Is there an approach you use? Is there a strategy you employ?

Ten Lessons from Ten Years of Marriage

Recently, Stephanie and I celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary. What an incredible blessing! I can honestly say we have been blessed with an incredible marriage. God has been so good to us. The Bible says in Psalm 127:3-5, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

What is a “quiver” anyway? Have you ever wondered that? Is it five? Is that right? Five children? If so, it looks like our quiver will be full once June rolls around. That’s right, a big announcement here on the blog today: Stephanie and I are expecting our fifth child at the end of June. Surprised? So were we!

Reflections on the 2012 GBC Annual Meeting

While this will not even come close to being a comprehensive review of the GBC Annual Meeting or the state of the Georgia Baptist Convention as a whole, I thought I would share a few thoughts about our recent meeting. We just hosted the GBC Annual Meeting at the church where I pastor. While it is indeed a daunting task, I believe things went pretty well. Here are a few thoughts that popped into my head while attending this meeting.
