Check out our new website!

Jon Kenney, our Director of Technology and Media at Crosspointe, did an excellent job on the new website. One of my first priorities when I came to Crosspointe was to upgrade and update our website and Jon did a great job! We’re still putting all of the pieces together and gathering information but you can see the overall look and it’s awesome.

I believe that this is one of the first steps in reestablishing the foundation here and rebuilding our image in our community and beyond. You may think it’s small, but you would be amazed at how many people view your website and form an opinion of you and your church from their first “cyber-glance.” I’m thankful we now we can make a good first impression for those who view us on the web.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday of the year. I think there are many reasons for this:

1. It doesn’t seem to be commercialized like many of the other holidays.
2. It’s just a few days before my anniversary EVERY YEAR!
3. It’s just a few days before my birthday EVERY YEAR!
4. It’s a great time to hang out with family you haven’t seen in a while.
5. Fall is probably my favorite time of the year…cool weather, changing leaves, etc.
6. Turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, sweet potato soufflĂ©, caramel cake…enough said!

This was our first Thanksgiving in Tennessee and we decided to stay here instead of traveling for a very short trip (we’ll be heading home for 10 days over Christmas and any trip with our boys is treacherous to say the least). Even though we were far away from extended family, we had a great Thanksgiving Day!

Stephanie did a great job on the meal: ham, green beans and mac and cheese. A very nice lady from the church brought us desert: carrot cake, apple pie and cookies. And we took a little time to visit with a couple of military families in our church who have “Georgia ties” (both families are from Georgia). We had a great day and a great Thanksgiving. I guess we’ve started a new Perdue family tradition in Tennesse. What fun!

Now this is awesome…

This link describes a UGA fan’s ultimate dream. UGA in the National Championship this season!

While I will admit to being a rabid fan, I must say that this is certainly a stretch…however still a possibility. It’s also possible that I could find a winning lottery ticket in the parking lot at Wal-Mart and hit the jackpot…but not likely!

Anyway, a fan can dream!

Go Dawgs!

I love College Football! There’s really nothing esle in the world quite like it. After the Oregon and Oklahoma losses we should be up to at least 7 in the BCS this week. Great job by Mark Richt and the whole team in salvaging what could have been a really bad season (after losing to South Carolina and Tennessee). I wonder sometimes what the season would be like if we had beaten SC. I’ll give up the TN game because they crushed us! But, that’s the way college football is and that’s the way this season has been.

All of this to say…I’m happy where we are right now. I believe we’re in the driver’s seat and if we just keep winning ball games we’ll find ourselves in a BCS game. SEC Championship or not, a good year. Overall, an excellent season. Room for improvement? Absolutely! And there’s always next year.

The Sermon on the Mount

I just started reading Matthew in my daily time with God and I am just blown away by the Sermon on the Mount. Not only is this the greatest message ever preached, by the greatest Messenger, but its content is completely radical and revolutionary.

You will notice a recurring theme throughout Christ’s sermon. Over and over again He says, “You have heard that it was said…” In other words, Christ is correcting some misunderstandings about God and the life of a true Christian. Jesus elevates the discussion well beyond the outward actions of an individual (murder and adultery) to the inward attitudes of the heart (hatred and lust).

What would our Christian life be like if we no longer depended on what we “heard” or what others “said;” and instead, depended solely upon what Christ had said. Wouldn’t there be a radical shift if Christians stopped comparing themselves to other Christians and instead compared themselves to the teachings and actions of Christ? What if churches no longer compared themselves to other churches but measured their effectiveness by the standards of Scripture?

I do believe there would be a fundamental change in our lives and in our ministries. And maybe that’s just what we need!
